New World Center is a 54-story headquarters office tower in the New CBD area of Shenzhen, China.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It is located on a prominent site adjacent to City Hall and the cultural corridor.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The design for the tower is intended to fit into these surroundings while becoming a point of difference from the other current and future City Center commercial buildings.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>In order to achieve this, the\u00a0<\/span>tower\u00a0 is set back from the street providing a serene garden entry and by zoning the site to create separation between cars and pedestrians and finally by creating a striking but calm sculptural tower.<\/span><\/p>

The lobby has a different character depending on your arrival point.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>From the north, the car drop off is given the formal treatment of a moon gate entrance infilled with glass that allows views
across the lobby to the water garden.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>From the west, the pedestrian passes over a ceremonial bridge that traverses the vast reflecting pool.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>From the east, this principle entry is given prominence over the others.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>An entry pavilion made of \u2018fish scaled\u2019 glass panels beckons people to enter the building and to climb the five-floor ramped stair connecting the podium levels and affording views over the city center.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>The entry pavilion is scaled to the lower government and cultural buildings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Fully glazed elevators serving the parking and podium levels as well as
multilevel bridges animate the interior of the atrium.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The slight 12 degree\u00a0<\/span>angle of the tower side walls transforms a \u2018box-like\u2019 shape into a powerful\u00a0<\/span>form.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>It also maximizes the south facing\u00a0<\/span>perimeter wall viewing over the Central Zone\u2019s greenbelt axis.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>Two features of the upper floors include a\u00a0<\/span>\u2018sail-like\u2019 glass panel, which is tilted toward the east and an atrium office\u00a0<\/span>on the top floor.<\/span><\/p>

The exterior\u00a0<\/span>articulation of the building is characterized by a strong, stone clad\u00a0<\/span>\u2018backbone\u2019 on the north and a diaphanous glass \u2018prism\u2019 facing south.\u00a0 The transparent south wall makes the building\u00a0<\/span>appear light and open toward the City Center, while the punched openings in the\u00a0<\/span>stone clad north wall presents a timeless solidity to the rest of the\u00a0<\/span>city.\u00a0 The glass exterior wall consists\u00a0<\/span>of a compositional pattern of horizontal and vertical mullions with low\u00a0<\/span>reflective vision glass and ceramic frit patterned spandrel glass.\u00a0 An ever-changing complexity of pattern will\u00a0<\/span>be seen in the glass fa\u00e7ade with the mullion pattern laid against the\u00a0<\/span>structural grid and the interior spaces beyond.\u00a0<\/span>This, along with the varied weather conditions of the region will create\u00a0<\/span>a constant dynamic play of light and shade .<\/span>These layered complexities allow the tower form to remain simple,\u00a0<\/span>elegant and efficient and of subtle form and color, while presenting a dramatic\u00a0<\/span>punctuation on the Shenzhen skyline.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t
